From golf to tennis, water sports, and more, there is an activity for everyone on the Island.

Continue reading to discover the many one-of-a-kind recreational activities that the Kiawah Island Club provides to its Members.

1. Golf

As a two-time host of the PGA Championship, it’s no surprise that golf is one of the most popular activities on the Island. With five public courses and two exclusive Kiawah Island Club offerings, resident golfers are never bored.

As the first golf course created exclusively for Members, the River Course has a reputation as one of the most difficult courses in South Carolina. Designed by legendary course architect Tom Fazio, the course runs along the river’s edge with amazing views of Kiawah’s maritime forest and ponds. Meanwhile, the links-style Cassique course — designed by legendary Hall-of-Famer Tom Watson — has been described as “air-lifted from Ireland’s Southwest coast” due to its Celtic-inspired layout. We can assure you that the golfing experience on these picturesque Member-only courses is truly exceptional.

If you’re looking to perfect your swing and improve your skills, check out our state-of-the-art Golf Learning Center for cutting-edge technology in the realm of professional instruction. Run by Carol Preisinger, one of Golf Magazine’s “Top 100 Teachers in America” for 15 years running, you are sure to lower your score with her expert instruction. Plus, 3-D motion analysis, launch monitors, and pressure mats provide data to diagnose efficiency of motion, club metrics, and brain function in order to improve golfers’ swings. Certified fitting pros are also on hand for personalized club and ball fittings.

2. Tennis

Prefer the court over the fairway? Kiawah Island tennis facilities include professional-grade courts found at The Sports Pavilion. Three full-time tennis professionals offer group beginner clinics and professional lessons throughout the year to enhance your swing. Members also look forward to monthly tennis socials and special events such as Breakfast at Wimbledon, The U.S. Open Interclub Matches, plus Spring and Fall Tennis Weekends that connect players through friendly competition. Whatever your skill level, you’re sure to have fun at these exclusive Kiawah Island Club events.

3. Pickleball

Pickleball, one of the fastest growing sports in the country, is a Member-favorite on Kiawah Island. A hybrid of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, the low-impact game is accessible to all ages and fun for every skill level. Two pickleball courts at The Sports Pavilion along with private lessons by a certified pickleball instructor allow players to hone their skills and build a community surrounding the sport.

4. Squash

Squash is an indoor, athletically-challenging racquet sport that has become quite the hit among Kiawah Island Club Members. The goal of the game is to hit the ball against the wall in a way in which the opponent is unable to return the ball. The Sports Pavilion welcomes dedicated players and newcomers with a masterfully designed squash court, complete with comfortable, furnished viewing stations for friends and family to cheer on their favorite players.

5. Shooting

From first-time shooters to master marksman, Club Members enjoy the fun and safety of The Sporting Club. The 800-acre facility is ideal for men, women, and children of every skill level.

With a variety of activities including sporting clays, trap, skeet, and 3-D archery, participants are continuously challenged. Top-tier instruction from experienced instructors help to guide Members into the sport and continue to develop their skills. Additionally, The Sporting Club hosts many Member events including Ladies’ Days, bourbon tastings, and a variety of tournaments throughout the year.

6. Biking

Biking is one of the best ways to explore Kiawah Island’s scenic landscapes, all the while keeping you active. Residents enjoy spending mornings and evenings biking the shoreline, and taking in the beauty of the Island they call home. Charming paths along the maritime forests and Kiawah River provide bikers with opportunities for spur-of-the-moment rides.

7. Kayaking and Paddleboarding

With the Atlantic Ocean and other winding waterways surrounding the Island, it’s no surprise that water sports are a part of the everyday lifestyle of Kiawah Island residents. From kayaking to paddle boarding, Club Members enjoy the peace and serenity of days spent exploring the Island’s rivers, creeks, and marshlands.

8. Fishing

Fishing is a beloved activity among residents of Kiawah Island. With the Kiawah River, Atlantic Ocean, and an abundance of ponds at our fingertips, there’s no shortage of places to cast your rod around the Island. For those looking for an adventure, charter a boat and venture offshore to try your luck at reeling in tuna, mahi mahi, or marlin.
