Kiawah Island Voted Among World’s Best in the U.S.

Travel + Leisure Names Kiawah Island & Charleston One of the World’s Best

We are pleased to share Kiawah Island is No. 9 among ‘The Top 10 Islands in the Continental U.S.’

Due to votes by T+L readers, destinations rank for natural attractions, beaches, cuisine, culture, friendliness, and overall value.

“The best islands in the continental US share an ability to slow down the hands of time,” writes the magazine on its website, “to recall simpler times and slower, laid-back living.”

In addition, our hometown of Charleston, SC remains the No. 1 city in America. This makes the 5th consecutive year for the southern city. It is also the No. 2 city in the World. In 2016 Charleston became the first city in the US ever to be named the #1 City in the World. A historical moment for the city. We believe Charleston deserves every one of the “bests” bestowed upon it. A mere 21 miles away, you can spend the day in the Holy City and still make it home for sunset on Kiawah’s beach.

Kiawah is no stranger to the World’s Best

As a result, the Island coveted the No. 2 honor in 2016 and was also named the No. 1 Golf Resort in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure Golf. The Island is a proud host to several championships including the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2012 PGA Championship, and the upcoming 2021 PGA Championship.

Most noteworthy, the Island is named a Top-Five Second Home Resort by Barron’s PENTA Magazine for the second straight year. This marks seven consecutive years the magazine ranks Kiawah on its list of America’s Best Places for Second Homes.

“We are thrilled to be one of the top 10 islands in the United States. The Kiawah Island Real Estate team certainly believes and ensures that Kiawah is the ‘World’s Best’ every day. We’ve worked closely with over 10,000 families to find their dream home or in many cases here, home away from home. I believe they would all very much agree that there’s no other island quite like Kiawah.” – Chris Drury, KIRE President and Broker in Charge

Due to this, Kiawah ranks at the top for lifestyle, golf, real estate and environmental stewardship. Read more about the Island’s impressive number of awards and accolades.

Kiawah Island Villa Makeover

An Ideal Villa Makeover

“We are 251 steps to the beach,” Donna Porritt says as I step into her Mariner’s Watch villa, “but who’s counting?”

At 625 square feet, there is a lot about the villa that could rely on numbers. Whether you attribute the tiny house movement or reducing your carbon footprint, the art of downsizing—living full time in a significantly small space without sacrificing the luxuries and belongings that matter to you most—is fun, and Donna and husband Sam Bromage perfected it by having “right-sized” living in mind from the start of their renovation until the day they brought the last of their belongings from Connecticut.

A rare commodity comes to Kiawah

Luxury townhomes to debut in Kiawah’s RiverView neighborhood

Kiawah abounds in the most delightful residential properties. Stunning single-family homes? Check. Airy, sun-filled villas close to the beach? Check. New-construction, luxury townhomes? Well… not so much, until now.

Perfect for the homebuyer who wants the feeling and space of a luxury home without the maintenance, townhomes can offer a true “lock it and leave it” experience. And the new RiverView townhomes, some with multi-level views of the Kiawah River, will feel even more like single-family luxury homes than usual.

Each townhome will be only partially attached to its neighbor on the first-floor living level, nestled in a lush landscape designed by John Tarkany Associates in this highly walkable, gated neighborhood. A private neighborhood dock, kayak launch, gathering pavilion, and saltwater pool are just a stroll away down a brick path.
