How to Spend a Day at Freshfields Village
Freshfields Village: Where to Eat, Shop, and More!
Located conveniently on Kiawah Island, Freshfields Village is a premier hub for high-end shopping, exceptional dining, and so much more. With a variety of locally-owned and brand-name restaurants and shops, it is the perfect place to explore and enjoy some retail therapy.
Whether you are a resident of Kiawah Island or are simply visiting, here is how to spend a day at Freshfields Village.
1. Grab a Coffee
When you first arrive, we recommend picking up a gourmet beverage from Java Java, an independently owned coffee shop. Made with locally sourced beans from the award-winning King Bean Coffee Roasters in Charleston, their coffee is made fresh daily and tastes delicious. In addition to coffee, Java Java also offers a variety of smoothies and pastries, as well as made-to-order breakfast and lunch options. All in all, this is a great place to get your caffeine fix before you begin your day at Freshfields Village.
2. Make a Candle
Whether you need a gift for a friend, a souvenir to remember your trip, or a new scent for your Island home, you can never go wrong with a visit to Palmetto Scent Studio. Here, you can choose from a wide variety of pre-made gourmet soy wax candles with locally-inspired scents like “Kiawah Paradise,” “Mossy Live Oaks,” and “Sea Island Sunset.”
For a more personalized experience, consider creating your own custom candle. This way, you can create a unique fragrance, select your own vessel, and design your own custom label. Whether you’re spending the day with friends or simply enjoying some “me” time, making a candle is a delightful activity that anyone can enjoy.
3. Visit Your Favorite Shops
Freshfields Village is home to a variety of men’s, women’s, and children’s retailers so you can rest assured that you will find something for every member of your family. Looking for the perfect outfit for a special occasion? Visit Lilly Pulitzer, Southern Tide, Luminary, Spartina 449, or vineyard vines for up-scale resort wear and elegant clothing. On the other hand, if you’re looking for activewear to sport during your Island adventures, stop in lululemon or SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters for outdoor gear, island apparel, and accessories. With the stores mentioned above as well as many others, you have the opportunity to shop ‘till you drop at Freshfields Village!
4. Pick Something for Your Pet
No shopping trip is complete without a gift for your best friend! Visit Dolittle’s to pick out something special for your pet. Offering top-quality toys, treats, collars, beds, and more for both cats and dogs alike, you’re sure to find something your furry friend will adore.
5. Unleash Your Creativity
Let your creativity flow at Patricia Reno Huff Gallery & Art Studio. Whether you are a novice or an avid art enthusiast, you’ll enjoy taking a group or private class led by the artist herself. From oil painting to watercolor, you can sign up for a class that appeals to your artistic preferences.
6. Choose a Book
On Kiawah Island, there is nothing more relaxing than reading on the beach. To pick up your next beach read, visit Indigo Books to browse their selection of domestic and international fiction, mysteries, classics, biographies, and more. As one of the last remaining independently owned bookstores in the state, you’re sure to find a novel that piques your interest.
7. Unwind in the Sun
Freshfields Village is more than just shops and restaurants — it’s an outdoor community gathering place. You can often find locals chatting amongst each other, playing cornhole with family, or reading in a rocking chair. Plus, the village also hosts a variety of events throughout the year to foster a sense of community. From Sidewalk Saturdays to Cars & Coffee, live music, and more, Freshfields Village is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful, sunny day on the Island.
8. Engage in Some R&R
For even more relaxation, spend some time getting pampered at Urban Nirvana day spa. Here, you can book a hydrating facial, restorative massage, or detoxifying wrap. Have a special event coming up? Visit the salon for a special occasion style or have your color refreshed. Following some time spent at Urban Nirvana Spa, you are sure to emerge as a more rested and relaxed version of yourself.
9. Enjoy a Meal
In addition to shops, Freshfields Village is also home to some amazing restaurants. To unwind after a busy day of shopping, enjoy a glass of wine and a charcuterie board at FortyEight Wine Bar & Kitchen. Or, if you’re in the mood for margaritas and tacos, you can never go wrong with a visit to Cantina 76. Locals also love King Street Grille for a casual meal of burgers and beer, while watching a sporting event on the big screens. Whether it’s a fine dining restaurant or a casual bar and grille, Freshfields Village has something for everyone.
10. Treat Yourself
The best way to end a day at Freshfields Village is with something sweet! To enjoy delicious milkshakes, malts, banana splits, and sundaes in an old-fashioned setting, head to Vincent’s Drug Store & Soda Fountain. Owned by Kiawah Island homeowners, Vincent’s Drugstore is definitely a local favorite on the Island. We highly recommend the rootbeer float!
