Charleston magazine recently featured an in-depth exploration of the meticulous restoration of Charleston’s iconic Two Meeting Street Inn, one of Kiawah Island Club’s newest amenities. Originally constructed in 1892 as a Queen Anne-style mansion for Waring and Martha Carrington, the property has undergone a significant transformation under the stewardship of South Street Partners, who acquired it in 2022.
The restoration project, which received the distinct honor of receiving the prestigious Carolopolis Pro Merito Award from the Preservation Society of Charleston, was a collaborative effort led by e.e. fava architects, Tupper Builders, Tammy Connor Interior Design, and landscape architect Elizabeth Pope. The team’s goal was to preserve the Inn’s historic charm while seamlessly integrating modern amenities, including all-new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Iconic original features–such as the Louis Comfort Tiffany stained-glass windows and intricate oak paneling–were meticulously preserved.
The 6,000-square-foot inn now boasts eight luxurious guest suites, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms, alongside communal spaces like a formal dining area, living room, large piazza, and a second-floor lounge with a wrap-around balcony offering views of White Point Garden and the harbor. The surrounding gardens have been thoughtfully landscaped to highlight the property’s historic elements and native flora.
Since May 2024, Two Meeting Street Inn has served as an exclusive urban retreat for Members of Kiawah Island Club, seamlessly blending Charleston’s rich history with contemporary luxury.
