Club Members Celebrate The Fourth—By Land and By Sea

Last week, Americans from sea to shining sea celebrated the nation’s birthday with all the spirit and revelry the holiday deserves. Backyards across the United States played host to lively barbecues, parks filled with picnicking families, and the evening skies exploded in dazzling color from coast-to-coast. Not to be outdone, Kiawah residents trumpeted the joy of Independence Day with two events Club Members have been enjoying for years. From the driving range at Cassique to the sandy shoreline of The Beach Club, America’s 243rd birthday was celebrated in grand style. “Holidays are always a time for families and friends to come together on Kiawah,” says Chris Drury, President at Kiawah Island Real Estate, adding, “but our Fourth of July celebration is a clear favorite.”

The festivities began on the eve of the holiday, July 3rd, at Cassique. As dusk set in across the fairways, families, and friends gathered at the driving range for the Kiawah Island Club’s Annual Independence Day Extravaganza. Although the day had been peppered with rain showers, Members brought a sunny spirit to an evening of spirited activity. Children thrilled to carnival games, a jump castle, and colorful face painting (a butterfly design across the cheeks was an evident favorite). Balloons were twisted and bent into masterful recreations of dogs, giraffes, and other crowd-pleasing creatures.

Hungry attendants piled their plates high with summer’s greatest hits—served straight off the grill, and a live band provided the pop/rock soundtrack that accompanied the night. Island athletes faced the challenges of a rock climbing wall and tested their swing in a friendly “Longest Drive” contest. Members paired camaraderie with competition for the memory-making event. And as a prelude to the big holiday ahead, the evening concluded with fireworks, setting the heavens over Cassique ablaze with color.
The annual July 4th event, the Beach Club’s Star Spangles Pool Party, was a rousing success, bringing Members and their families together with friends and visiting guests. Recent renovations to the pool deck and surrounding areas expanded the canvas for a day of play, music, and poolside fun. The afternoon resounded with giggles during the kids’ coin toss and set the stage for the decidedly more adult “beverage toss” that followed. A local band energized the scene with pop favorites spanning decades, and guests tossed all dining etiquette to the wayside for an uproarious watermelon eating contest.
