The Top 5 Kiawah Island Fishing Charters

Kiawah Island is commonly known for its white sandy beaches, world-class golf, and serene nature parks. But did you know that the Island is also a top fishing destination? With various inshore waterways and offshore reefs, a variety of fish species reside in the waters surrounding the Island.

On Kiawah Island, fishing charters typically offer inshore, nearshore, and offshore fishing trips. An inshore excursion involves fishing the creeks and inlets around the Island in search of redfish, trout, flounder, and sharks. For those looking to venture a little further out, nearshore fishing takes you a few miles off land where you will be fishing the reefs and wrecks that are home to sea bass, sheepshead, and cobia. Lastly, the adventurous at heart are sure to enjoy the thrill of offshore fishing. During this trip, you will be on the hunt for big game fish such as tuna, mahi mahi, grouper, and marlin.

Preparing for Your Fishing Trip

Once you have booked a fishing charter, it is time to prepare for your trip! Your captain will supply you with fishing equipment and bait, however, you will need to bring other items to ensure you have the best experience possible. In terms of clothing, we recommend wearing layers, as the weather on the water tends to fluctuate. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are needed to protect you from the bright rays. Don’t forget a camera if you wish to document your big catch!

In terms of food and drink, be sure to check with your captain in order to determine if a meal will be provided or if you will need to bring your own. We recommend packing a cooler with snacks, sandwiches, and plenty of drinks to keep you hydrated throughout the day. First-timers may want to consider bringing motion sickness medication or acupressure wrist bands just in case. It is always better to be over-prepared for a day at sea!
