Designed in many architectural styles, the homes on the Island are a resident’s retreat at the end of a long day exploring the Island’s gems. Kiawah Island isn’t only lovely in the summer. Due to South Carolina’s temperate weather, life on the Island is excellent year-round. Below, we will break down what life is like on Kiawah Island in every season.
Living Year-Round on Kiawah Island
The Carolinas, and South Carolina specifically, are becoming hot destinations for those fleeing colder areas of the country. With great weather, abundant nature, and low taxes, South Carolina is a popular landing place for those leaving their home state. South Carolina’s weather year-round is perhaps the most attractive part of this destination state and one of the main reasons it continues to see an abundance of newcomers from other states yearly.
Spring
At the beginning of spring, Kiawah Island bursts with color as flowers like the Dogwood and the Yellow Jessamine bloom. The weather is unbeatable at this time of the year, with middle-of-day temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to the low 80s. Beachgoers are met with light winds and sunshine, making for a perfect day out on the water. A slight cooling in the evening is perfect for dinnertime and reconnecting with family.
Kiawah Island also brings in the spring season with some exciting seasonal events. Kiawah Island Club’s Progressive Dinner is a great way for Members to explore their community, using Club transportation to the various restaurants on the Island and enjoying a full-course menu experience. Club Members can also celebrate the season at the Shuckin’ Party at Cassique in April, where party-goers indulge in oysters, mocktails, cocktails, and more.
Summer
Summer on any island is good, but summer on Kiawah Island is unparalleled. In the summer months, more opportunities exist to be out on the Island’s water kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing.
Family memories are built during beach days and at the Family Dive-In Movie Nights. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to play golf with a Kiawah Island Club’s golf operations team member in the cooler summer mornings. Head to The Sports Pavilion in July for a Parent/Child pickleball tournament and enjoy the Independence Day celebrations on July 3rd with the annual Red, White, and Boom event at River Course.
Fall
While it may sound counterintuitive, some believe that fall is actually the best time to visit the beach in South Carolina. The summer heat has already warmed the water, and the beaches are less crowded after the summer rush. Fall in South Carolina also offers abundant fishing opportunities as the fish attempt to fatten up for the winter season.
Kiawah Island Club Members enjoy a wide range of fun fall activities. Get in the spooky season spirit at the GoFamily Pumpkin Painting on October 30th. On November 30th, participate in the Turkey Trot at Ocean Park and Thanksgiving Dinner at B-Liner for a prix fixe menu, Cassique for a family-style dinner, or River Course for a lavish buffet.
Winter
Probably the shortest season on the Island, winter still has so much to offer. This season is where the mild weather really comes into play. As the temperatures typically range from the mid-40s to the low 70s. This temperate weather means you can still enjoy the outdoors and usually only need a light jacket. Winter on the Island is one of the best times to play tennis or golf, so don’t forget your racquet and clubs!
Winter in South Carolina is truly a wonderful time of year, and just like the other seasons, is full of activities. Many believe oysters are best enjoyed during the winter due to the cold water, so head over to the Atlantic Room or B-Liner to be served some fresh ones. Take the family biking and feel the cool breeze on your face as you explore the Island. For those who love to shop, take care of some of your holiday shopping at Freshfields Village. The opportunities are endless, and time is always well spent on Kiawah Island.
