Kiawah Island Is The Place To Be This Holiday Season

This holiday season, leave the cold weather at home and join us on Kiawah Island for warm breezes, palmetto trees, and unforgettable holiday celebrations.

Across the Island, and in nearby Charleston, you’ll be able to find a variety of holiday activities from cookie decorating to decadent Christmas dining. So if you’re searching for reasons to spend the holidays on Kiawah, we have more than a few.

Reasons to Spend the Holidays on Kiawah Island:

#1: The Activities

There is simply no better way to spend the holidays on Kiawah Island than participating in the many holiday festivities. From ornament workshops to 5K’s, you and your family are sure to find an activity you all can enjoy!

Cookie Decorating

Through December 21st, join Island locals at the Terrace Ballroom in The Sanctuary for holiday cookie decorating. This complimentary event is loved by everyone on the Island, regardless of age. Kids can choose whichever cookie design they like, from snowmen, gingerbread men, snowflakes, and more. Just don’t forget to make your reservation beforehand!

S’mores & Bonfire

On December 30th spend your evening around a bonfire at Night Heron Park. There will be live music and s’mores available for purchase from 5 pm to 6:30 pm — you won’t want to miss it.

New Years Celebrations

New Years is one of the most popular times on the Island. On December 31st, take the family to Night Heron park for Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s New Year’s Family Celebration. From 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, enjoy live entertainment, fireworks, and a full dinner menu. This event is complimentary, and the perfect way to ring in the New Year with the Kiawah community.

On New Year’s Day, work off those extra holiday calories by participating in the 3rd annual New Year’s Day 5K. Or, test your luck in the icy waters of the Atlantic with the annual Polar Bear Plunge! Both events are complimentary.

#2: Exclusive Club Events

If you’re a member of  The Kiawah Island Club, you can take advantage of the most exclusive and festive holiday events, starting with Holiday Cocktails.

Holiday Cocktails

Looking for a way to impress your guests this holiday season? Then you must attend the Holiday Cocktail class on December 12th sponsored by the Cocktail Bandits. This adult-only event will teach you how to expertly craft specialty cocktails.

The Nutcracker Ballet

The Moscow Ballet will be visiting the Island December 21st to present The Nutcracker. This breathtaking ballet is undeniably a holiday favorite, and features world-renowned dancers, hand-painted sets, and an overwhelming sense of the Christmas spirit.

Gingerbread House Building

On December 23rd, spend the day crafting the most spectacular house the Island has ever seen — gingerbread house, that is! From 3 pm to 5 pm, Club Members can sip hot cocoa, eat cookies, and create their gingerbread masterpiece. The houses are already assembled and clean up is taken care of. All you have to do is make it come to life!

Dining

Club Members won’t want to miss out on exclusive dining options at B-Liner and Voysey’s, the two finest dining options on the Island and arguably in the Lowcountry. Both restaurants boast James Beard award-winning consulting chefs, guaranteeing an unforgettable holiday meal.

Want to take advantage of the exclusive seasonal events the Kiawah Island Club has to offer? Contact us! The only way to join the Club is with a qualifying real estate purchase, so let us help you find the right Island home for you.

#3: The Weather

Even in the winter, the weather on Kiawah Island can be 60 to 70 degrees and sunny. Not too hot, not too cold, and the ideal temperature for outdoor activities on the Island.

Since things are a little slower here in the winter, there’s even more opportunity to cast your line in the Kiawah River or play 18 holes at The Ocean Course. No matter what you decide to do, our warm, sunny Island weather will allow you to make the most of it.

#4: The Lights

To see some of the most beautiful lights on the Island, visit the lobby of The Sanctuary Hotel and take photos in front of the magnificent Christmas tree. Adorned with lights and specialty ornaments, it’s truly a must-see during the holidays.

Or take an excursion off Island for a dazzling display of holiday light sat the 30th annual Holiday Festival of Lights on James Island. Until December 31st, you and the family can enjoy three miles of sparkling lights, marshmallow roasting, train rides, gift shops, and more.

#5: The Food

There simply isn’t a better holiday meal than the ones prepared on Kiawah Island. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, visit Jasmine Porch and The Ocean Room for seasonal specials. The Ocean Room will be serving dinner both nights, while the Jasmine Room will serve dinner on Christmas Eve and a breakfast buffet on Christmas Day.

Cherrywood BBQ & Ale House will also be serving a dinnertime feast on Christmas Day. If you love Southern BBQ, this is the place to be.

Reservations are required for all holiday meals at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Click here to see times, openings and pricing.

#6: The Shopping

Need to finish some last minute holiday shopping? Take a stroll through Kiawah’s premier shopping destination, Freshfields Village. On December 19th from 4 pm to 7 pm, take part in the Fall Sip & Stroll. The Sip & Stroll offers sales, refreshments, in-store events, and promotions specifically for the holiday season.

Bluemercury, Cantina 76, Coastal Footwear, GDC Home, Holly & Brooks, Islands Mercantile, Leggiadro, Lilly Pulitzer, Lululemon, Palmetto Scent Studio, Peyton William Jewelry, Scout & Molly’s, SeaCoast Sports and Outfitters, Southern Tide Kiawah, STUDIO 33, Tres Carmen, Vineyard Vines, and Wonder Works are all participants in the holiday Sip & Stroll, each offering their own discounts and refreshments.

#7: The Memories

If you needed another reason to spend the holidays on Kiawah Island, here it is. The memories made here are the ones that will last a lifetime.

Visit the beach to make a sandman or sand angels, decorate your home with lights, or set out cookies for Santa. Whatever your holiday traditions may be, we invite you to do them here on Kiawah Island. Who knows, you may even create new traditions for your family to enjoy for years to come.
