There is simply no better way to spend the holidays on Kiawah Island than participating in the many holiday festivities. From Christmas musicals to Chanukah celebrations, you and your family are sure to find an activity you all can enjoy!

Cookie Decorating with Santa

On Saturday, November 27th, join Island locals at Night Heron Park for holiday cookie decorating. This festive tradition is one of the most beloved Kiawah Island upcoming events, regardless of age. Simply purchase a box of fresh cookies, and we’ll supply festive toppings for decorating. Santa Clause will also be making an appearance and be available for pictures. Just don’t forget to make your reservation for the event beforehand! 

Chanukah in the Square

On November 28th, spend your afternoon in Charleston attending the 14th annual Chanukah in the Square extravaganza at Marion Square. There will be a lighting of the menorah at sundown as well as live music, delicious food, and children’s activities.

The Elf on the Shelf: The Musical

The Elf on the Shelf: The Musical is coming to Charleston! Attend the show on December 2nd to experience the spectacular performance of dancing and singing that is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit! The whole family will enjoy this magical story that follows Santa’s elves as they prepare for Christmas in the North Pole.

2. The Best Winter Weather

Even in the winter, the weather on Kiawah Island can be 60 to 70 degrees and sunny. Not too hot, not too cold, and the ideal temperature for partaking in outdoor activities on the Island. 

Spend your days casting your line into the Kiawah River, kayaking through the glistening waterways, or playing 18 holes at The Ocean Course. No matter what you decide to do, our temperate, sunny Island weather will allow you to make the most of it.

3. The Twinkling Light Displays

To see some of the most beautiful lights on the Island, visit the lobby of The Sanctuary Hotel and take photos in front of the magnificent Christmas tree. Adorned with lights and specialty ornaments, it’s truly a must-see during the holidays.  

Or, take an excursion off the Island for a dazzling display of holiday lights at the 32nd Annual Holiday Festival of Lights on James Island. Until December 31st, you and the family can enjoy three miles of sparkling lights, marshmallow roasting, train rides, gift shops, and more. 

4. The Shopping

Need to finish some last minute holiday shopping? Take a stroll through Kiawah’s premier shopping destination, Freshfields Village. With a variety of both local and high-end retailers, you’re sure to find something for everyone on your list. Plus, from November 26th to December 20th, your kids can drop letters to Santa into a special mailbox near the Christmas Trees on the Village Green. For each letter received, Freshfields Village will donate $5 to the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center in Charleston.

Wreath Building Class

Join Lauren Maggio of Charleston Flower Social in the River Course ballroom on December 8th for an evening of holiday wreath making. Greenery and tools will be provided, and Lauren will guide you through creating your own unique wreath. These beautiful creations will look amazing displayed outside of your Island home, or as a gift for a loved one!

Gingerbread House Decorating

On December 22nd, spend the day crafting the most spectacular house to exist on the Island — a gingerbread house, that is! Club Members can sip on hot cocoa, enjoy warm cookies, and decorate their gingerbread masterpiece. The houses are already assembled and clean up is taken care of, so all you have to do is make it come to life! 

Circa 1886 36th Annual Progressive Dinner

Club Members won’t want to miss out on an evening of fine dining and camaraderie at the Circa 1886 36th Annual Progressive Dinner. During this much-beloved holiday tradition, diners will journey by carriage to three different restaurants in downtown Charleston. The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres at Historic Kings Courtyard Inn, followed by a three-course dinner at Circa 1886, and conclude with coffee and dessert at the Historic John Rutledge House Inn.
