The New Year is Bringing Changes to Kiawah Island

Here’s What To Expect.

Kiawah Island will be experiencing an exciting growth period in 2020, with several new developments and renovations to look forward to. Here are the exclusive projects the Island can anticipate for the upcoming year.

New Projects for Kiawah Island in 2020

Senior Living Facility

Over the past several years, the addition of a senior living center has been a running theme in Kiawah town meetings. The idea was presented by residents numerous times when discussing the Island’s future — and Kiawah Partners (KP) listened. KP, the master developer of Kiawah Island and owner of the private Kiawah Island Club, has partnered with Big Rock Partners, a real estate investment management and development firm, to break ground on the Island’s first-ever senior living facility in 2020.

The state-of-the-art facility will offer 200 luxury units for residents over the age of 55. Amenities for the property will include a movie theater, a combined fitness center and yoga studio, and several swimming pools. The new space will be built along a small lake in close proximity to the Freshfields Village Shopping Center

Residents can expect the facility to begin construction in the Winter of 2020.

Cottages Coming to Ocean Park

Kiawah’s real estate is expanding, too. A new collection of seven turnkey cottages will be introduced to the Marsh Walk neighborhood in 2020 as well. These cottages provide a smaller home option with sweeping views of the lagoon, as well as a membership to the Kiawah Island Club. To create an indoor-outdoor feel, all homes will feature large windows and beautiful furnishings to offer the perfect getaway to Kiawah Island.

More details are still to come with this exciting community expansion. Kiawah locals can expect to see changes to the Marsh Walk neighborhood beginning in December of 2020.

The Sanctuary Chapel

Kiawah Island Golf Resort recently unveiled to the public the latest completion in their “West Beach Expansion Project”, The Sanctuary Chapel.

This elegant chapel is the ideal destination for wedding ceremonies under 150 guests. The stunning space features a courtyard garden and a grand colonnaded pathway to guide wedding guests to The Sanctuary Hotel Grand Oaks Ballroom for reception events.

Nondenominational services will also be offered on a weekly basis.

Beach Club Renovations

Kiawah Island Club Members can expect numerous exciting renovations at the Beach Club including:

Swimming Pool Area Renovations

All three swimming pools will no longer have concrete deck areas, and instead, be replaced with Turkish Shell stone. The pools will also be newly replastered and feature a new waterline tile design. Additionally, a pool chiller will be installed into the main swimming pool to allow the water temperature to cool down during warmer months.

Pool Deck Area Renovations

Lounge seating in several areas will be replaced with brand new furniture such as teak wood loungers, day beds, Adirondack chairs, and double seating loungers. All of the current pool deck railings will be replaced, and the audio system will be upgraded as well.

All of these improvements are scheduled to be completed by March.

The West Beach Conference Center

Also designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the new West Beach Conference Center will offer the chance to host large group gatherings in an elegant facility.

The Conference Center will boast 23,000 total square feet, 10,000 of which reside in the Carolina Ballroom, the largest space on the property. Smaller breakout rooms are also available to accommodate more intimate groups ranging from 33 to 368 attendees.

The West Beach Conference Center will open early 2020.

Night Heron Park

Our beloved Night Heron Park is getting a makeover as well.  The Nature Center will be renovated and doubled in size to provide even more family-friendly entertainment. Night Heron Park will also debut a brand new pavilion, art center, fitness center, and restaurant once completed.

West Beach Villa Check-In

Robert A.M. Stern Architects will be designing a third property on Kiawah, which will be a  new registration facility for West Beach Villa guests.

The goal of this project is to ensure villa guests have a smooth check-in experience when they arrive to Kiawah. This facility will be conveniently located in the West Beach Village, close to the restaurants and amenities of the Cougar Point Clubhouse

Kiawah Partners

Our own company will be experiencing big changes in 2020 as well. At the beginning of the year, Kiawah Partners will be welcoming a new Kiawah Island Real Estate Broker in Charge.

The announcement comes after news of Chris Drury’s retirement as President of Kiawah Island Real Estate. After 14 years of being with the company, he plans to enjoy life after retirement by spending time with his family and visiting Kiawah whenever he can.

Looking Ahead to 2021

To plan ahead for the 2021 PGA Tournament played at The Ocean Course, we suggest speaking to a Sales Executive now about building your Kiawah Island home if you would like to have your home completed before the tournament.

Cassique is a premier private club community with two of Kiawah Island’s newest neighborhoods, The Estuary and Little Eagle Island. If you’re looking to build a true custom home, both neighborhoods offer a vast variety of Lowcountry landscapes and sceneries to choose from.
