Pro Pickleball Lights Up Kiawah: MLP Stars Take the Court
On April 8th, Kiawah Island Club served up an unforgettable pickleball experience as it welcomed two powerhouse Major League Pickleball (MLP) teams–the Los Angeles Mad Drops and the Orlando Squeeze–for a high-energy exhibition match at The Sports Pavilion. Fans and pickleball enthusiasts gathered courtside to witness some of the sport’s top-ranked professionals in action.
The exhibition featured an exciting lineup of singles and doubles matches, showcasing elite talent from both teams. Representing the Orlando Squeeze were Federico Staksrud, the current World #1 in Singles and Men’s Doubles, Lacy Schneeman, ranked #12 in Singles and #7 in Women’s Doubles, and Dylan Frazier, ranked #9 in Singles and #6 in Men’s Doubles. On the Los Angeles Mad Drops side, the roster included Catherine Parenteau, currently #2 in Women’s Doubles and #6 in Women’s Singles, Hunter Johnson, ranked #4 in Men’s Singles, and Jade Kawamoto, ranked #18 in Women’s Doubles.
The level of play was nothing short of extraordinary, as these top pros delivered fast-paced rallies, precise shot-making, and dynamic team play that kept the crowd energized and engaged throughout the day. For Members, it was a rare opportunity to experience professional pickleball up close and personal–an experience that brought even more excitement to a sport that’s booming nationwide.
Held at The Sports Pavilion—home to six dedicated pickleball courts—this event highlighted why the venue has quickly become one of the most popular Club amenities. Whether it’s casual daily play or competitive matchups, The Sports Pavilion has become a vibrant hub for Members who share a passion for the game.
Adding to the excitement, the Club hosted two full days of interactive clinics led by the pros themselves. Members of all skill levels were invited to join in, learning essential techniques, refining their game, and connecting with fellow players in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Whether just picking up a paddle or working toward tournament play, Members left with new skills–and new memories.
