Labor Day on Kiawah Promises a Full Weekend of Family Fun

Labor Day. Since its inception on September 5, 1882, the day has been a celebration of the American workforce and its impact on the startling growth of the nation’s industrial power. In the modern era, the first weekend in September has come to represent the final days of summer, the introduction to autumn, and a fashionable reminder to refrain from wearing white in public. For Kiawah Island Club Members, the holiday has come to herald a weekend of Island activities that bring family and friends together for camaraderie and fun. And from what the Club Calendar tells us, this year will be no exception.

THE KICKOFF

What better way to launch a spirited weekend of play than with a football-themed tailgate party? The Marsh House will play host to the annual Football Fest on Saturday, August 31, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Team spirit and party foods are the order of the evening as attendees (decked out in full team colors) socialize over tailgating favorites including mac & cheese and grilled burgers. Reservations are required for the family-friendly fun.

Meanwhile, play rules the day at The Sports Pavilion’s Kid Zone. From 5:30 to 9:30, it’s “no parents allowed”for a night of dodge ball, swimming, combat archery, bubble soccer, jump castles and field games. Top it all off with a movie and a food-truck sponsored dinner, and you’ve got an end of summer party that kids will remember through the whole school year.Reservations are required, “indoor voices”are not.

SUNDAY’S SPLASH LANDING

Summer’s final pool party unfolds under the bright blue skies above The Beach Club. From noon to 3:00 p.m. on September 1st, swim, socialize, snack, and shimmy to live music against the glorious backdrop of the Kiawah shoreline. Children will find plenty to do with a roster of age-appropriate activities. Reservations are not required for the event.

WIMBLEDON? WHAT’S THAT??

Move over, Serena and Federer! Club Members will claim the courts on Labor Day. The U. S. Open Party brings an end to summer at The Sports Pavilion. Following a morning of spirited tennis, participants will gather for a light lunch before watching the U.S. Open together in the atrium. Reservation are required for an event that tennis-minded Members are sure to Love.
