Freshfields Village
Now that the concept has become reality, Freshfields Village has turned out exactly as Kiawah Partners intended. Its striking architecture and landscaping has created an oasis of design interest, and its many events and festivals have proven ideal for fostering community spirit. The central location of this mixed-use commercial center offers everyday convenience for people from all three of the area's sea islands.
Its collection of locally owned businesses has proved it's still possible in a nation of big box stores for shop owners and their customers to know each other on a first-name basis. When you make a quick stop to pick up provisions for a party, you might well see someone who's invited to it. If you're shopping in Freshfields' fashion boutiques, sports stores, gift shops and specialty stores, you're likely to bump into two or three neighbors.
In addition to being the place where people take dry cleaning, do banking, and run other errands, Freshfields Village is alive with events and activities, ranging from concerts, holiday festivals, oyster roasts, and farmer’s markets to starlight movies and trunk shows.
Zoning for the overall project calls for up to 450,000 square feet of commercial space. Phase I of the development includes 175,000 square feet of retail and office space. Phase II will include the addition of an amphitheater and residential units. www.FreshfieldsVillage.com

Like the village greens in 19th century small towns, it would provide a center for community life and entertainment. Its design and concept would also encourage customers and local merchants to get to know each other. Read more
