Hundreds of architects, builders, and landscape designers have poured their endless talent into creating homes on Kiawah that not only provide comfort and shelter but also visually enhance their surroundings. Noted architects Christopher Rose and Scott Anderson were both recently recognized for their work on two unique homes on Kiawah whose designs are striking and contemporary, and thoughtful of their surroundings.
Architect Scott Anderson refers to 28 Cormorant Island Lane as the ‘Tree House’ as it was designed to nestle into towering trees and thick forest. Found on the eastern tip of Kiawah, the home embraces nature with its outdoor living spaces, walls-of-windows with unending views all the way to Bass and Cinder Creeks and Folly Beach, and warm, rich woodwork on the interior.
The home recently won a 2011 South Carolina AIA Design Excellence Award, along with two other Scott Anderson-designed homes on Kiawah. “It’s humbling and gratifying that these projects are judged and awarded by a jury of my peers,” said Scott. “This year, the Anderson Studio won three of the four awards given in the entire state – all for projects on Kiawah.” The additional honors were awarded to 87 Salthouse Lane and 57 Surfsong Road.
When asked what he kept in mind when designing a home on Kiawah, Scott answered, “I have to respect and become intimate with the natural features of each property so the home becomes one with the landscape. In the end, the home and the land combine to create a unique and breathtaking living experience.”
For more than 15 years, Chris Rose of Christopher Rose Architects, P.A. has been designing homes on Kiawah, earning a reputation of being extremely talented and understanding of his clients needs and wishes.
Chris was recently selected to represent South Carolina in the upcoming book 50 U.S. Architects: Residential & Planning by AIA award winning author Damir Sinovcic. The book recognizes one architect from each state whose design conveys the spirit of its respective locale. Also featured in the book is the Chris Rose-designed 102 Blue Heron Pond.
Boasting an exquisite contemporary design, 102 Blue Heron Pond stretches the imagination and boundaries for Kiawah living. The architecture pairs down the four-bedroom home to its cleanest and simplest form. Exposed, stained steel beams and all-glass walls highlight the surrounding views of water and nature, and add to the interior ambiance.
“Chris Rose is a consummate visionary who took our verbal explanations and a few pictures and developed a beautiful home that radiates architectural excellence and fits into its surrounding as though it was meant to be there,” said homeowner Katherine Parramore. “When questions or issues arose in the building process, Chris was there to quickly address and advise. His guidance to a couple that had never built a house from the ground up was patient, educational, and full of unique ideas."
