When Craig and Sandie Buffie purchased 546 Oyster Rake, it was a 1980’s dark den with worn carpet, heavy oak trimwork, dated light fixtures and basic kitchen and bathroom amenities.  Originally built by a highly respected Kiawah Island builder in 1986, the bones of 546 Oyster Rake were never an issue for the owners, but the interiors and the landscaping on this double lot didn’t take full advantage of the key feature of the house: beautiful views of Kiawah marshlands. 

So the Buffies teamed up with lauded interior designer, Dina Lowery, out of Charlotte, NC and put five basic makeover principles in motion.

A number of events this spring marked a bustling season for Kiawah Island Real Estate. We played host to 200 people at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta for an evening of family fun, fine cuisine, and an informal presentation of Kiawah and its offerings. In April, KIRE opened the doors to eleven exceptional Island abodes during our annual Tour of Homes. The event entertained 400 people and was followed by a reception at our main sales office.

The summer months ahead will bring a host of activity to residents and visitors alike. We’ve listed just a brief sampling of the Island’s terrific seasonal events.

In March 2012, Jack and Joann O’Connor discovered 4383 Sea Forest Drive, an ideally situated villa directly across from the beach and equidistant between Night Heron Park and the Sanctuary Hotel.  While the coastal retreat offered 180-degree views of Night Heron lagoon, the interior aesthetics were not so appealing. However, the O’Connors recognized the potential, took to the pages of Coastal Living for inspiration and decided to take on the project in three phases.
